In partnership with The HSC Foundation, TransCen, Inc. is implementing the Life Enrichment Awards Program (LEAP). This program is designed to enrich the lives of youth and young adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses in Montgomery County, Maryland. LEAP provides goods and services that are directly linked to youth transition planning and implementation, and are usually not available from public service and government agencies. They are not covered by Medicaid or private insurance and are goods and services not considered "medically necessary."
Examples of elegible awards include, but are not limited to: business clothing needed for school or job interviews, job-specific tools, computers and/or assistive technology (needed for the job, the job search, or school), temporary transportation to get to a new job, etc. Applicants are encouraged to be creative! The program does not fund "life necessity" goods and services, such as food, medicine, direct medical services, or housing.
To be elegible to apply for and receive a LEAP award, applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 25, AND a Montgomery County resident, WITH a disability. Additionally, applicants must be actively engaged in a transition process and the requested good or service must be directly linked to transition planning and/or career development activities.
